		<description>Muto is a self-directed design research project that explores the expression of human individuality through material objects.
The results are presented as a fictional luxury brand.

The centerpiece of the project is a brand personality spot that takes a spin on traditional luxury fashion advertising.
As the models wrap each other in Muto they become indistinguishable—the more they embrace it, the more they mask their inherent human individuality. The climax of the short showing that the two models have become the same, unidentifiable person.

The audio used in the video was created using human DNA data responsible for determining the probability of bipolar disorder. This data (Short Tandem Repeats) was translated into MIDI notation and used in Ableton Live to trigger synthesizers and audio samples.

Them Thieves are a post-hardcore act from Burlington, Ontario.
DRKFUTURE was responsible for the band's album concept, visual creative, direction and live visuals.

&#60;img src="http://payload33.cargocollective.com/1/0/30201/2964194/1_700.jpg" width="700" height="700" width_o="720" height_o="720" src_o="http://payload33.cargocollective.com/1/0/30201/2964194/1_o.jpg" data-mid="15799555"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Them Thieves approached D/RKFUTURE with a totally clean slate. This new band (formed from the ashes of previous bands) had no visual identity as of yet. The close study of the lyrics and patterns in the songs allowed for a story to emerge. From that story an album concept was built around the idea of an anonymous John Doe figure that thrives off of stealing personalities.

&#60;img src="http://payload33.cargocollective.com/1/0/30201/2964194/3_700.jpg" width="700" height="700" width_o="720" height_o="720" src_o="http://payload33.cargocollective.com/1/0/30201/2964194/3_o.jpg" data-mid="15867621"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Duality+Smoke and Mirrors.
These are the two themes that dictate many of the choices made in the visual language of this project.
Double meanings and the interplay of the phrase "smoke and mirrors" (literally and metaphorically) helped craft a concept with substantial depth. This depth is also mirrored in a literal manner that has all print materials designed with a Them Thieves Green. bar sitting on top of a black and white image which sits on top of a grey square creating visual depth.

&#60;img src="http://payload33.cargocollective.com/1/0/30201/2964194/Poster-1_700.jpg" width="700" height="995" width_o="700" height_o="995" src_o="http://payload33.cargocollective.com/1/0/30201/2964194/Poster-1_o.jpg" data-mid="15800982"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
The band are very unique in their song writing and creative focus, so the visuals had to match.
D/RKFUTURE proposed the idea of "questioning tradition" as a production theme.
One example of this is the lyrics poster.
This 17 x 25in poster comes free with the purchase of the CD and is the only printed material that includes the band's lyrics. This prompts the user to interact with the poster more frequently and in turn create more contact with the brand of the band.

Blog gifs
A series of GIFS bringing to life the visuals of the record were created and distributed throughout the web to create buzz and an atmosphere around the release of the record.

		<description>Fixed–Gear Connection, Bicycle Infographic.
This poster shows how complex (or not so complex) a fixed gear bicycle is when broken down to its parts. There are four main sub-assemblies each with their own colour designation. The circular graphic shows the connections between the parts as well as the different sub sections this also indicates the manner in which the connection is made.

		<description>A personal endeavor in experimental typography.
This experiment focused on the interplay of vector and raster imagery within the same forms.
This project was also an exploration in how blurred the lines could get between abstraction and legibility. The visual language and aesthetic of the letter forms only give way to be readable once the viewer is aware of how twisted and distorted the letters are.

Type reads: Never been much of a people person.

Indian ink + vector geometrics on paper
22x34 inches on matte stock.

		<description>Poster for The Drake Hotel staff talent night.

This poster was distributed throughout the hotel and posted on the employee monthly newsletter.
The art direction needed to hint at the idea of a staff member having numerous hidden talents.
This photo was shot in a public park and had me dressed up in a suit with a drum strapped to my back, balancing on a bike wheel while holding a drum stick in one hand and a guitar in the other
...all while blindfolded.

		<description>Monster Mash was free Halloween scavenger hunt event put on by Jason Mante + Art Commisso for bicycle riders in the Hamilton area of Ontario.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/30201/912043/main_700.jpg" width="700" height="998" width_o="700" height_o="998" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/30201/912043/main_o.jpg" data-mid="6597760"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
The first of its kind in the Hamilton region, the idea behind the event was to have a completely immersive experience for a night. This included an online community leading up to the event, a meet and great beforehand, the event itself and then a free after party.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/30201/912043/cleaned_700.jpg" width="700" height="468" width_o="1840" height_o="1232" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/30201/912043/cleaned_o.jpg" data-mid="6597280"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Teams and solo riders set out on a scavenger hunt that had them use their digital or cell phone cameras to "shoot" various "monsters" hidden throughout the downtown strip of Hamilton. Each rider was given a map with clues on where each of these painted monsters were placed.
The name plays on the idea of "mashing" which is bike slang for riding as fast as you can.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/30201/912043/hand1_700.jpg" width="700" height="472" width_o="700" height_o="472" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/30201/912043/hand1_o.jpg" data-mid="6597606"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/30201/912043/hand2_700.jpg" width="700" height="472" width_o="700" height_o="472" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/30201/912043/hand2_o.jpg" data-mid="6597728"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Free spoke cards were also given out at the event. This was another factor that made all participants feel welcome. Riders of all ages and skill levels showed up for this event and we wanted everyone to feel like they were all equal parts of the experience. The back of the spoke cards had what appeared to be an "abstract" design, but really they acted as puzzle pieces—showing that everyone was an important part of the fun-filled event.

Including a social networking presence (Facebook, twitter, etc) we also gained the attention of the MonstersVsMe blog which is a popular Hamilton life &#38; culture blog which receives thousands of monthly hits.

The After party was held at Absinthe Lounge in Hamilton. Participants of the event received free entry and complimentary beverages. Music supplied by DJ Nights
